What is a Name Server?

The DNS system is based on name servers, which are distributed throughout the Internet. A name server is therefore a service that knows the corresponding IP address of a domain and can translate it in both directions.

In order for a domain to be found on the internet, it must be assigned to name servers. This is done in the Swizzonic user account in the DOMAIN-Manager.

Further background information on the DNS system can be found on Wikipedia.
